COVID-19 Risk Communication & Community Engagement Stories from the Field – ESARO
Description
As of 26 May 2020, there are 31,588 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Eastern & Southern Africa Region, with the majority of cases identified in South Africa (23,615 cases). As cases began to increase in the region, interest increased about what COVID was, how it spread, and what the affected populations could do to prevent transmission.
Coupled with this interest was the spread of rumors and misinformation which the Eastern & Southern Africa Region Regional Office (ESARO) and all country offices (COs) are actively working to address.
Social listening emerged as a significantly important tool to the ESARO Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) approach, and Communication for Development (C4D) colleagues across the region are working to collect, monitor, and assess community feedback as the situation continues.
