Latest Global Call | RCCE Collective Service Update

GOARN hosted The Collective Service Monthly Global Call last Tuesday [26/09/23], bringing together approximately 25 RCCE partners from various agencies.

Disability Inclusive Risk Communication & Community Engagement

During the recent Collective Service Global Call held on September 26th, Kristel Juriloo, UNICEF ESAR Programme Officer (Children with Disabilities), delivered an overview presentation on ‘Disability Inclusive Risk Communication & Community Engagement.’

The main objectives of the presentation were to provide a comprehensive definition of disability, emphasize the importance of disability inclusion, highlight the increased risks faced by persons living with disabilities during emergencies and showcase some successful examples of best practices. These examples included the COVAX uptake in Tanzania within the community and the Malaria Mass Drug Administration (MDA) program in Uganda.

Disability Inclusive RCCE

In this ESAR RCCE Technical Working Group, the Collective Service hosted a webinar to discuss Disability Inclusion in Risk Communication and Community Engagement and the lack of inclusion in public health discourse.

With representatives from UNICEF, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), and the Camp Coordination and Camp Management cluster (CCCM), the speakers provided an overview of the increased risks experienced by people living with disabilities during public health emergencies. They also shared good practices and measures to improve equal access to feedback mechanisms, as well as disability data aggregation and collection methodologies.
