COVID-19 Risk Communication & Community Engagement in Uganda
Description
UNICEF is leading in preventative actions against COVID-19 in communities across Uganda with the use of risk communication, providing handwashing supplies, hygiene and medical kits to schools and health clinics, monitoring the impact of the outbreak to support continuity of care, education and social services.
As of 4 May 2020, Uganda has reported 97 confirmed cases, 52 recovered and no deaths thus far. Many of the new cases are from asymptomatic truck drivers originating from other countries, such as Tanzania and Kenya. The truck drivers were placed in quarantine, followed by a follow-up. UNICEF is profoundly worried by the effects of the pandemic and the prevention measures on children. UNICEF continues to support the Government of Uganda in the prevention and containment of COVID-19 while also sustaining existing programmes.
